Erie Police & Municipal Courts

The Town of Erie asked the design team to create a modern civic landmark which would house the Police Facilities, Municipal Courts and function as a public gathering space for civic events. To capture a community spirit, a large circular entry court flanked by the curving architectural wall welcomes visitors through a hardscape plaza planted with a bosque of shade trees. The plaza and adjacent lawn is used for public gatherings. Surrounding the entry and plaza are planting beds with xeric grasses, groundcovers  and perennials used to display the textures and colors found in low-water gardens. Drainage and stormwater runoff for both the site and adjacent neighborhood is routed through the landscaped areas into a detention basin planted with native prairie, meadow grasses and perennials providing a soft foreground for the modern structure beyond.
