Boulder Glass House

Set at the base of the Flatirons on the foothills of the Rocky Mountains this site is surrounded by open space leading to the Flagstaff sandstone formation. As a bold response to the stunning architecture, R Design committed to a design that celebrated the purity of the native landscape. Within the site planning, the design team set the elevation of the garage to allow the prairie landscape to wrap the roof and surround the home with a restored sense of place. Textured stone, reclaimed boulders and vegetation collected through ecological studies was used to integrate the new structure into the site. A clean, custom crushed stone rill encompasses the house, collecting stormwater which sheets down the glass and distributes it into vegetated swales and is used to irrigate the surrounding plant material.
