Fallkill Farm
Leading down a gravel drive past stone walls and pastures a former farmhouse was rebuilt into a modern residence. A new pool space was set in the back yard between the historic barn structures and trees. Old broken foundations of former farm buildings were removed to create a clearing for the new pool and patio spaces. Large swaths of grasses, perennials and flowering shrubs creates a softness and a sense of enclosure around the pool space. The grassess and flowering shrubs capture the beauty of the nearby meadows and bring it into the garden spaces in a subtle and controlled manner. A fire pit was built using the existing stone of an old machine shed foundation on the property. Placed under the existing shade trees the fire pit and stone steps connects through a no mow fescue grass meadow up to the pool area. An outdoor shower, changing room and sauna were placed in the old timber frame barn with easy access to the pool. The pool area was designed so it becomes the connector space, tying the house to the surrounding barn structures.
