Hudson View
Set on a bluff overlooking the Hudson River this historic 1850’s house and property were brought back to life blending traditional style with modern day living. A series of terraces were created for various outdoor uses. The spaces are connected through stone patios, walls, steps and gently rolling grassy slopes. A low wall uses locally gathered reclaimed stone to define the edge of upper play lawn while framing the stunning views of the Hudson River below. A wildflower meadow was designed to restore, beautify and stabilize the steep hill. The pool area was designed as if it floats above the river and the distant views of the valley. Stone walls create flat terraces and outdoor rooms in which the pool, lounge patios and fire pit become gathering places each having its own view and experience. A new driveway entry was designed to gently meander up the wooded hillside and around the majestic existing oak, maple and honey locust trees. The entry courtyard was created by placing a new garage parallel to the house. Plantings help to balance the house and stone work with the landscape. The various shrubs, perennials, grasses and trees soften the edges, compliment the fieldstone and provides textures and color throughout the seasons.
