River’s Edge

The views of the snow capped peaks, Spruce, Aspen forests and colorful rock formations provide a breathtaking backdrop for the River’s Edge site. However, the ecology of the river valley is far more arid with Cactus, Sagebrush and low prairie grasses mixed with large stands of Pinion Pine and Rocky Mountain Juniper. These plants were largely non-existent on the land which had been grazed for years leaving it devoid of plant diversity. Early site walks and design analysis considered views, watershed, existing vegetation and topography which informed the placement of each structure on the land with the team. The design is an example of modernism lightly placed on the land and plantings used to catalyze the restoration of the native landscape.
