Chestnut Hill

The house elevated on the knoll comes into view as you enter through the stone columns and past the apple orchard. Fieldstone walls encompass the front of the house creating a grass lawn plinth which frames the house and sets up the views to the field and pond below. Stone patios surround the sides and back of the house for flexible gathering spaces featuring a cocktail patio, cooking garden and dining area under a cedar pergola. A custom designed outdoor kitchen includes a pizza oven, grill, and Argentine grill as the centerpiece. Bar ends provide a place for people and food to gather for social events. Plantings with a mix of flowering perennials, low grasses, boxwood hedges, and shrubs create an edge to the adjacent forest and set up the garden vibe around the outdoor spaces. A stone walled sunken garden with glass greenhouse was placed at the far end of the central lawn. This garden space becomes the end focal point to the north side of the property. The garden is laid out with a central glass greenhouse, defined cut flowers beds, vegetable and fruit gardens, an herb garden and intimate seating area to enjoy a lunch or cocktail in the garden. A custom designed arbor and trellis fence provides a barrier while providing place for climbing roses to spread out and bloom. Holly, Hydrangea, Hornbeam and Juniper Hedges become the walls to the garden while providing cuttings for seasonal table displays and decorations. The brick floor of the greenhouse along with stone clad walls, creates an old world feel to the space.
