PROJECTS: CIVIC + URBAN PROJECTS: Family Gathering Space

The play area originally designed and built in the late 1970's was in dire need of an upgrade.The rotten wood timbers, loose pea gravel and accessibility needed to be addressed in the re-design of the space. The updated space features new wood decking and bollards, a poured in place rubber surface and one step for easy access for small children. The existing raised timber planter on the end of the play area was falling apart and was replaced with brick to match the other planters on the mall. The outdoor space becomes a play and resting spot for families seeking an area to escape the busy hustle of the numerous shoppers and diners. The space is designed to allow the parents to gather on the edges to watch the children play. The new single step design allows the children to safetly move in and out of the space.
